A Series 6 exam is required in order to sell certain financial products. The exam is designed to ensure that representatives understand the products and regulations well enough to provide their client with the right investments. According to The Financial Industry Regulatory Association, a person who passes the Series 6 is qualified “for the solicitation, purchase and/or sale of,” mutual funds, variable annuities, variable life insurance, unit investment trusts, and municipal fund securities.
